~ Our Purpose ~

The purpose of the Coalition is to:

  •  promote visibility of,  and responses to,  the broad range of violence experienced by members of our communities with psychiatric disabilities;
  • attend to issues related to social justice and human rights (e.g., institutional policy, legislation) as relevant to violence against members of our communities with psychiatric disabilities;
  • create space (e.g., webpage, networking meetings, forums) for discussing and planning actions/responses to violence against members of our communities with psychiatric disabilities;
  • encourage and promote exploration of politically and institutionally divergent perspectives and experiences as guided by a shared commitment to the Mission and Values of the Coalition;
  • support the formation of emergent working groups to develop strategic actions in response to the historical, political, and economic context in which violence is experienced by members of our communities with psychiatric disabilities.
